Recovering From Bunion Surgery
Recovering
From
Bunion Surgery
We often have tourists travel to our city to enjoy a little vacation time. Well, if you are recovering from bunion surgery, now’s your chance to do the same! Depending on the type of surgical procedure you have, your road to recovery can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months, and in some cases even up to a year. So, don’t push it and try to do too much too soon. Relax and enjoy the downtime! Read that book you haven’t had time for or watch that movie you’ve been wanting to see. It’s a good idea to have some of these activities in mind before your surgery, and prepare a comfortable place with everything you need in reach. Make meals ahead and plan for friend or loved one to help out.
You can expect your stitches to be removed within the first few weeks, and you’ll need to keep weight off of your foot. As you gradually bear weight on it, you’ll need to wear a walking cast or boot to protect and support your foot while it heals. It’s important to follow at-home care instructions closely and schedule follow-up appointments to make sure your recovery is going smoothly. Ice and medication will help with any pain or swelling. Kicking back and propping your foot up on pillows is helpful too – and a great time to read or watch that movie!
Recovering from bunion surgery can certainly be a long road, but embracing the time to rest and following the doctor’s instructions will ensure that you get off the road to recovery and back on your feet as quickly as possible.
