No one likes to get hurt, but athletes especially become unhappy if an injury interferes with their training routine -- mention the word “rest” and be ready to duck and run! Fortunately for athletes -- as well as the bearers of bad news -- there are ways you can stay fit while you heal and recover.

WalkingThe beauty of low-impact activities is that you can take weight off your injury while still getting exercise. Swimming is a great low-stress option, as is biking, yoga, rowing, and lifting weights. Of course, your ability to do these things depends on your injury, so be sure we give you the go ahead before you start. Even if you do get the okay, though, don’t just dive right in (pardon the swimming pun). Start slow and gradually increase your time in the pool or gym.

Physical therapy exercises are often recommended as well. These help to restore strength, flexibility, range of motion, and overall function.

Still, there are times when a speedy recovery might need a little help to, well, speed things up. We have several techniques utilizing regenerative medicine that can give your “getting better” a boost. MLS laser therapy uses concentrated wavelengths of light to reach your injury, block pain signals and encourage cellular repair and regeneration.  Extracorporeal pulse activation therapy uses high-frequency sound waves to stimulate the healing process. AmnioFix is yet another treatment which injects the injury site with placental membranes full of natural growth factors for a fast recovery of damaged tissues.

So, don’t let an injury cause you to lose focus – you can stay fit while you heal and recover fast, even if we tell you to rest! Call our Houston, TX office at (281) 497-2850 so we can assess your injury and get you back on track. We can help you recover faster than you think!
